1. Have a financial plan before you quit
"Make sure you have health insurance," advises Kristine Rusch, author of "The Freelancer's Survival Guide." "Make sure you have health insurance. Yes, I said that twice."
2. Turn your home into your office
3. Know that being your own boss isn't as simple as it sounds
4. Treat yourself like a business owner :
"Learn to see and talk about yourself as the CEO of your freelance company, not just a freelancer," Bassham says. "Clients and prospects will take you more seriously knowing that you take yourself seriously."
5. Know that fair bid is better than a cheap bid :
"Bid smart, not necessarily cheap," she says. "Clients are, more often than not, looking for high quality work as opposed to the lowest price
6. Become well-versed in billing and invoicing
7. Commit to learning your industry inside and out
"You should do this even in a full-time position, but as a freelancer it is vital that you are constantly growing and adding to your skills," she adds.
